Shanghai Travel Diary – Part 1

Here’s to another travel post! I’ve been to Shanghai a few times for work, and I’ve compiled a few places I went to in the past year=P (hence the short hair and bump free pictures. Haha!) I tend to like jotting down little notes when I travel, and have always had the intention of writing about my travels – mostly for myself, so I have something to look back on, but somehow that thought always gets set aside, but not anymore! Let me share a little bit of that here, and maybe it may be helpful to some people!=) Some of the Shanghai travels were during the holiday seasons, and it does get really festive, which is super beautiful and vibrant. There are even more people around the holidays, but I would still recommend it for the experience of the culture at it’s most festive times!

Oriental Pearl Radio & TV Tower was one of the first places I went to when I visited here! It is considered the 6th highest building in the world! Coming from someone who is terrified of heights (but love the excitement) it was extremely exhilarating being up there. There’s a full view of the city which is a great introduction to the city! There are different sections at the tower, one of the lower levels even has a small arcade with games. The Shanghai Municipal History Museum is also located at the lower level which consists of the history and development of Shanghai over the years. There is a restaurant all the way at the very top for those that want to dine with an extraordinary view. A transparent elevator takes you up and down between the floors. The second sphere consists of the glass floor, and a 360 degree view of the city. There is a fee to go up the tower and I found a link that has more information: https://www.travelchinaguide.com/attraction/shanghai/oriental_pearl.htm

View looking straight down, got quite the leg trembles here.

After all the excitement walking on the glass floor, my friend and I toured the Shanghai Museum at the lower floor. I took a few pictures to share below.

These look quite real, doesn’t it?

Night view of the Huang Pu River and the “World Architectural Fair”. They are buildings all lined up facing the river, consisting of well-known companies such as Bank of China Building, the Peace Hotel, Customs Building and HSBC Bank Building.

A little glimpse of my exploration at the other side of the river at NanJing Road – a huge shopping district that also has a lot of food! =) NanJing Road gets really busy and touristy. This place has a good mix of modern shopping and historic places. The best of both worlds, with the old and new all in one place.

One of my favorite childhood candy. First time seeing it so huge!!!

These are quite common around the streets, where artists draw animals using honey and then mold it on a thin wooden stick.

These are some popular street foods that I enjoyed while I was here – warm black bean soy bean milk, tea eggs, and fried pancake (this one can get really oily, be ware for those that have sensitive stomachs. I am actually one of them, but I tend to suffer the consequences later…which isn’t a wise choice, but I always like to try new food at least once.)

This is comfort food for me right here. I would really recommend the above dish. It’s basically just meat and veggies with rice in a stone pot , but it tastes so delicious and cozy to the tummy on a cold day.

For those that are down for a treat, try a buffet at the Peninsula Hotel. I have to say, I was impressed by their impeccable service. I mean considering a 5 star hotel, this is a given right? Grateful for the experience, and this would be a nice place to go for a little brunch date. This was during the Christmas season, so the place was filled with beautiful décor.

My coworker suggested to eat here, and a few of us had a nice 3 hour breakfast/brunch before leaving. I managed to take just a few pictures!

This wraps up part 1 of my Shanghai travels. Hope it was enjoyable to read! This city is always so lively. There are lots of huge billboards and advertisements everywhere and the streets are filled with bustling locals and tourists. I will be sharing more soon, in a Shanghai Travel – part 2!^.^
