How to make Easy Apple Turners
Hello! Let me introduce you to one of my all time favorite recipes – apple turnovers! What better way than to make some delicious apple turners for a snack, family gatherings, or the holidays! This recipe is super easy and only requires a few ingredients. Random fact – this is actually my first time making this recipe, and I have to say it turned out so tasty! Thumbs up for experimenting! I would recommend buying some good quality puff pastries, or you can also make them if you have a lot of time. Buying it just makes it easier personally. You can get the puff pastries at most grocery stores, and I got mine from Whole Foods. As for apples, I would favor towards sweeter apples, such as Fuji or gala apples.
Time : 40 minutes
Ingredients
- 2 apples (about 2 cups )
- 1 tbp brown sugar ( feel free to add more sugar to your preference)
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp orange zest (this part is optional, and lemon can be used instead)
- ¼ orange slice (this part is optional, and lemon can be used instead)
- 1 (14 oz) puff pastry pack (about 2 sheets and thawed)
- 1 tbp butter ( for the pan, optional )
- 1 large egg
Preheat oven to about 390-400 F.
Peel the apples and chop them to little pieces. I believe I used Fuji apples here, but any sweeter apple will do. The apples were closer to medium sized, and measures about 2 cups. In a pot heated on low temperature, mix the chopped apples, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and brown sugar together.
Zest some lemon or orange peel, and squeeze a slice of juice in the pot. Then stir and mix for about a minute or two.
In a bigger pan, lay out the puff pastries in a square size. I place aluminum on the pan and butter it, but this part is optional. Then start scooping the apples onto the pastries. I’m extremely generous with the apples, because I love more filling. I probably stuffed too much. Haha! Afterwards, just close the pastries into a triangle shape. You may use a fork to close it down on the sides, but I just squeeze it gently with my fingers. Then crack an egg into a small bowl, mix, and brush a little egg wash on top of the pastries. The egg wash creates that nice golden brown color.
Lastly, put the pastries in the oven for about 20-22 minutes! I usually eat one immediately, and place the rest on a cooling rack.
It’s amazingly delightful to eat once it comes out of the oven. The warm flakiness of the pastries and the semi-sweetness of the apples make an awesome treat! You can hear the crunch as you take each bite! This is definitely one of my favorite recipes to make, it’s super easy and tasty! The recipe is best eaten within a day or two, just bake again at 390-400 F for about 5 minutes if you want to warm it up. Enjoy!^.^
